Major Changes In Circle Ten Camps for Summer Camp 2008
Camping is and always will be at the heart of the Scouting program. We hear from people almost daily who tell us that their experiences at summer camp changed their lives.
In Circle Ten Council, we have four beautiful camps that cover more than 4,265 acres in Texas. They are the ideal environment in which our youth and leaders can put the ideals of Scouting and the Scout Oath and Law into practice.
At Circle Ten we are committed to offering the finest camping experience in the nation and we are blessed with volunteer leadership who share that commitment. To back it up, the board of Circle Ten Council approved millions of dollars in capital improvements to our camps as part of our 2007-2010 Strategic Plan. Renovations, new construction and new amenities are all part of Circle Ten Council's plan to continuously upgrade and maintain facilities.
This past year Circle Ten Council began implementing these changes.
More Merit Badges and Better Programs in 2008
Great programs make great camp, and for Summer 2008, we've expanded our program offerings to include 12 new merit badges across our camps at Clements, Constantin and James Ray. At Constantin, for example we've had to add boats, expand the handicrafts pavilion and double the size of the rifle range to accommodate the growth. This means we can allow even more Scouts to do the activities they love best.
Clements is About to Get Cooler!
The most dramatic change is the dining hall at Clements. If you've been to Clements Scout Ranch lately, you've noticed that the old dining hall is gone. In its place is a new air-conditioned dining hall that is nearly 1/2 a football field in size. It is beautiful!
Air-conditioning? We all love Texas, but there's no denying that the summers can be hot. We believe the chance to get in out of the heat--even for a little while--will make a big difference in the camp experience.
Clements Shower Facilities Set for Completion in Time for Camp
We're also just a few weeks away from completion of the third new shower/restroom facilities at Clements. These facilities offer flush toilets, hot water and privacy for the comfort of our leaders and our campers. These facilities are conveniently located throughout the camp.
That's Not All
We've also put new metal roofs on all of the permanent structures at Clements, including the office and museum. Not only do these improve the look of the structures, they should protect them for years to come.
We've also replaced spit rail fencing with new pipe fencing and paved many of the main roads into camp. The museum at Clements has also undergone major renovation. The museum houses an incredible collection of artifacts and animals from the region. Well worth a visit!
Constant Improvements at Constantin
Let's not forget Camp Constantin. Constantin has seen many major improvements over the past several years, from the Jack D. Furst Aquatics Base to the dramatic two story boat dock. In 2007 we also completed a major renovation of the camp office. The old office was torn down to the stone walls and rebuilt.
We know you have a choice when choosing summer camp, and last year. We want to invite you back again this summer to see the tremendous changes underway at Clements and Constantin. There are still slots available, and with smaller numbers of Scouts we can often find ways to help them camp with other troops. Don't let your Scouts miss a summer at camp!
